She imagined herself in a roadside hotel in a Leonard Cohen song — now she pays tribute from one

When songwriter Laurel Sprengelmeyer (a.k.a. Little Scream) first heard Leonard Cohen's songs, she was gripped by the stories in the verses and transported into imagining herself as the protagonist in them — "a somewhat worn out and tattered drag version of myself in a roadside hotel."

"And here I am now."

In a 2-star hotel room in Longueuil, Quebec on the outskirts of Cohen's native Montreal, Sprengelmeyer and her Little Scream collaborators enact a romantic performance of "I Can't Forget" — the track they contributed to the Cohen-inspired exhibit A Crack In Everything at the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal — from "the conscious crosshairs of time's arrow."
