Amanda Parris and Peter Knegt make some final pleas for nominations and second the words of Ellen Pompeo
Every Monday, CBC Arts runs down the latest arts and culture news on State of the Arts, a live chat between our very own Amanda Parris and Peter Knegt (never fear, Romeo Candido fans — he'll be back next month).
For our latest edition, Amanda and Peter discuss issues surrounding the gender pay gap, specifically with respect to this interview with Grey's Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo and a series of videos posted by comedian Mo'nique on her Instagram. Then, they dig into a bunch of awards season updates, most notably who they each hope will nab Oscar nominations tomorrow (you can check out Peter's predictions here).
Peter Knegt (he/him) is a writer, producer and host for CBC Arts. He writes the LGBTQ-culture column Queeries (winner of the Digital Publishing Award for best digital column in Canada) and hosts and produces the talk series Here & Queer. He's also spearheaded the launch and production of series Canada's a Drag, variety special Queer Pride Inside, and interactive projects Superqueeroes and The 2010s: The Decade Canadian Artists Stopped Saying Sorry. Collectively, these projects have won Knegt five Canadian Screen Awards. Beyond CBC, Knegt is also the filmmaker of numerous short films, the author of the book About Canada: Queer Rights and the curator and host of the monthly film series Queer Cinema Club at Toronto's Paradise Theatre.
