CBC Arts is on a search to find out why Hamilton has bred its own particular sound, and how the bands feel the city has influenced their music and how they create it.

Hamilton may be best known for its steel industry, but more recently there's been something else putting it on the map: its thriving electronic music scene. From Junior Boys to Orphx to Jessy Lanza, many artists with a love for synthesizers have a deep connection to Hamilton's neighbourhoods, factories and streetscapes.

In this segment directed by Alanna Stuart of the band Bonjay and featuring cinematography by Marco Libretti, Stuart heads to Hamilton to sit down with some of the most notable artists to hail from The Hammer. She's on a search to find out why this city has bred its own particular sound, and how those artists feel Hamilton has influenced both their music and how they create it.

Junior Boys will be playing Montreal on September 9; Winnipeg on September 15; Regina, Edmonton and Calgary from September 16-18 (find out more here). Catch Orphx if you happen to be in Berlin, Germany or Castelo Montemor-O-Vehlo, Portugal on August 26 and 27. Jessy Lanza will be performing at the 2016 Polaris Prize Gala on September 19.

Watch Exhibitionists Sundays at 4:30pm (5 NT) on CBC.
