Siminovitch Prize winner La Bissonnière shares her take on the power of theatre
On Sunday, October 19, Montreal production designer and architect, Anick La Bissonnière, won the prestigious Siminovitch Prize for her outstanding and innovative work in theatre design. We met up with La Bissonnière at the Université du Québec à Montréal where she gave us an inside look at her work and process, and told us what it’s like to win one of the most distinguished prizes in Canadian theatre.
Montreal production designer and architect: 'Theatre is like a big magnifying glass'
On Sunday, October 19, Montreal production designer and architect Anick La Bissonnière won the prestigious Siminovitch Prize for her outstanding and innovative work in theatre design. The annual Siminovitch Prize is the richest prize in Canadian Theatre — worth $100,000 — and is awarded in a three-year cycle to a professional director, designer or playwright. La Bissonnière took home $75,000, and designated a protégé to receive the remaining $25,000.
We met up with La Bissonnière at the Université du Québec à Montréal where she gave us an inside look at her work and process, and told us what it's like to win one of the most distinguished prizes in Canadian theatre.
