2017 is gearing up to be a big year for singer-songwriter Ruth B. Fresh off of winning accolades at the JUNO Awards and Canadian Radio Music Week Awards, she's dropping her debut album, Safe Haven, on May 5th (which includes her multi-platinum hit "Lost Boy") before heading out on tour.

But before she became a bonafide Canadian pop sensation, Ruth B, who grew up in Edmonton, was a young girl whose life was changed when she heard Lauryn Hill's 1998 album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill

In this video, Ruth B tells us about how Hill's debut solo album spoke to her as a young person growing up, and later as a fellow singer/songwriter.

Ruth B will be performing at  CBC Music Festival on Saturday, May 27. Ruth B's album Safe Haven is out May 5 and available now for pre-order.
