What happens when art is mistaken for trash?
In this video for Exhibitionists, journalist Wendy Roses introduces Pepa Chan, an artist in St. John's whose work was mistaken for garbage.
St. John's artist Pepa Chan's publicly funded work was thrown out by city officials
St. John's journalist Wendy Rose first heard about Pepa Chan when city officials threw out the artist's installation that had been publicly funded.
This started an odd arts investigation for Rose, which led her to meet the Argentine-born and ask the question, "What happens when art is mistaken for trash?"
Consider the question for yourself in this video, directed by Ben Smith and produced for CBC Arts by Stephanie Matteis.
Chan will be part of the 17th annual Hold Fast Festival at Eastern Edge Gallery in August 2016.
