Meet the designer pushing the boundaries of Indian wedding couture
Mani Jassal is breaking taboos in black and white
Indian wedding couture is incredibly colourful and varied, but designer Mani Jassal will tell you there are a couple of tone taboos in its traditional costume — namely, using black and white in wedding saris or gowns. So when she decided to include both in her wedding-themed collections, it definitely raised some eyebrows.
Jassal's clothing line has blossomed despite any objections, and she continues to find a lot of support from her growing number of fans. She's definitely not afraid of pushing some buttons in her bridal wear — and in this video by filmmaking team ISTOICA, Jassal opens up about her designs and why she feels compelled to stretch boundaries.
ISTOICA is a production team led by Chris Altorf and based in Toronto. They specialize in documentaries about art and fashion.
