Long before 'La La Land,' Ryan Gosling was Canada's first Mouseketeer
Watch a young Gosling show the CBC his moves in this archival video
Ryan Gosling might have lost the best actor Oscar on Sunday, but he'll always have a place in Canadian history — and Canadian hearts — thanks to his stint on The Mickey Mouse Club. Back in 1993, Gosling became the first ever Canadian to be selected for the show, which also helped launched the careers of Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Keri Russell and Christina Aguilera.
"To me it's luck, because there was kids there that were just phenomenal," a young Gosling says in the above video, produced from the CBC Archives.
It seems hard to believe that it was luck that ended up carrying Gosling from that point in his career to now. But it's nice to know one of Canada's most celebrated celebrity exports was as gracious back then as he is now.
