The Canadian Screen Award-winning actor tells CBC Arts about the 1982 animated feature that sparked his imagination and started him on a creative path.

It may be hard to believe, but Shoot the Messenger star Lyriq Bent was already a teenager when he watched his very first film. The 1982 animated feature The Last Unicorn, in which a Mia Farrow-voiced unicorn goes on an epic quest to find other members of her species, inspired him so much that he ended up deciding to pursue a career in acting.

Bent can still vividly recall the influence the film had on him — and before you see him star in the new political-crime series Shoot the Messenger, watch him tell CBC Arts how The Last Unicorn sparked his imagination and started him on a creative path for his life.

Shoot the Messenger premieres Monday, October 10 at 9:00pm (9:30 NT) on CBC Television.
