5 lessons animator Sol Friedman learned from cartoons
From Scooby Doo to South Park, Sol Friedman's favourite cartoons have taught him a lot about life. In this funny, insightful and sometimes irreverent segment for Exhibitionists, the Toronto-based animator and filmmaker relates five of those cartoons' lessons from which we can all benefit.
Friedman's most recent short film, Bacon & God's Wrath, follows an elderly Jewish woman as she tries bacon for the first time. It's screening as part of the documentary shorts program at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Ut. from Jan. 21-31.
His previous work, Day 40, tells the story of Noah's Ark from the animals' perspectives as the water was rising. The film won a number of awards and screened internationally.
Bacon & God's Wrath is on the Toronto International Film Festival's list as one of Canada's Top Ten Short Cuts of 2015 and was also nominated for a Canadian Screen Award. Winners for the CSAs will be announced on March 16, 2016.
Watch Exhibitionists Sunday at 4:30pm (5pm NT) on CBC Television.
