As of yesterday, members of the Writers Guild of America — a.k.a. the minds behind all of your favourite shows in Hollywood — are on strike, after negotiating with the studios for months.

The union says writers are facing an existential crisis because of streaming, AI and other threats to the creative industry. Entertainment reporter Teri Hart explains how we got here, what's at stake and what happens next.
