In this video from the CBC Archives, a young Mandel talks about not letting fame change him.

On a visit home to Toronto in 1986, actor, comedian and Canadian Screen Awards host Howie Mandel sat down for a CBC interview with Sue Prestedge. When asked about whether his newfound fame and money would change him, Mandel insisted that it would not.

"I don't change," he said. "I haven't changed, I haven't changed my underwear in 13 years. I don't think a person should change just because they're doing well. That's my belief. My mom used to say, 'Change your underwear!' I said, 'I'm never changing. I'm never changing, no matter how much money I make, Mom. I'm never changing.'"

In honour of Mandel's stint hosting the CSAs this weekend, CBC Arts found this archival footage. Over 30 years later, one thing that certainly hasn't changed is his ability to still make us laugh. Welcome home again, Howie!
